Low Weng Tchung
Weng Tchung holds a First Class Master of Law degree from the University of Cambridge, with a specialisation in Commercial Law. He was the first recipient of the Tun Suffian Foundation Cambridge Scholarship.
Weng Tchung also obtained a First Class Bachelor of Law degree from Oxford Brookes University, where he graduated top of his class. He was called to the English Bar by the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple.
Weng Tchung is regularly instructed in commercial, corporate and telecommunication matters and appeals involving novel and complex legal issues. He appears in all levels of the Malaysian superior courts, and has been noted for his “well-researched written submissions”: see Malpac Holdings Berhad v Malpac Capital Sdn Bhd [2017] MLJU 1257 at [74] per Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali J (now FCJ).
Weng Tchung is the author of The Law of Restitution and Unjust Enrichment in Malaysia (now in its 2nd Edition), the first and to date the only dedicated textbook on the law of restitution and unjust enrichment in Malaysia, which has been cited with approval by the superior courts, for example by the Federal Court in Lim Swee Choo & Anor v Ong Koh Hou @ Won Kok Fong [2025] 6 MLJ 327 (in which Weng Tchung also acted as counsel for the successful appellants), and the Court of Appeal in Kosbina Konsult (K) Sdn Bhd (in liquidation) v Madu Jaya Development Sdn Bhd [2019] 3 MLJ 471 at [34] per Tengku Maimun JCA (later CJ).
Weng Tchung is also the co-author of Sinnadurai, Law of Contract, 5th Edition (2023), the authoritative textbook on contract law in Malaysia.
